Weekend Update!

So we grilled our turkey and let me tell you, it was awesome, awesome, like totally awesome. We will probably do it like that again next year.

On to bigger and better things. We ordered chickens this week and starting in January, we will have 15 chickens hanging around the house! The kids and Joshua are looking forward to them, I am a bit apprehensive, only because I am not a fan of animals, manual labor or smelly things. I think I will get to like it better when I have fresh eggs everyday.

Our mailbox was hit last week, probably on Sunday night, so we did not get mail for two days (on Wednesday the mailman brought it to the house). Joshua spent a good three hours working on beating the dent out then remounting it on Friday, it looks almost good as new.

Today is the first Sunday of Advent and this morning, at mass, we sang my children’s favorite Advent song, “O Come Divine Messiah”. Margaret sang it very loudly and she drowned the rest of the pew out. She also got looks from the people in front of us, looks of joy, I am sure.

The biggest news of the weekend though was the new translation! Oh my, was that wonderful. Yes it was bumpy with the responses, but the prayers oh, those were so beautiful! I can only say that I was so excited about the new translation this morning, my fingertips were tingling. No really. I have been looking forward to this for years and to have this day finally come, it was just wonderful. Did you listen, did you hear the differences? Did the prayers help you reach toward heaven just a bit more?

Prayer Request

In your charity, would be so kind as to offer prayers for my friend’s grandmother who passes away last evening, her name was Mary.

Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her. May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

Update – Quickly!

* I asked you all how your parish is handling the New Translation (coming soon and very soon!) but I didn’t tell you how mine was handling it. Our pastor and deacon have been giving a series of homilies on the New Translation and what it means, why it’s being done and what else we can expect. I have to say that they have been more than informative, and thankfully my children have been pretty well behaved during Mass the homily as of late, I have heard most of them. I am very much looking forward to November 27th!

* It is 828 in the morning, 45 degrees outside, heading for a high of 66 today. Just so you know, Wednesday it was 84 and muggy. Today is certainly sweater  weather. MyChia (as our sweet Caecilia calls herself) is still sleeping, highly unusual. The other three are playing in the toy room and no one has asked me for food. This is a most unusual morning.

* Tonight we are meeting Joshua in town to go grocery shopping. Our local Publix store is having  an awesome sale on butter and flour. Usually butter is $4.00/lb and flour is $2.50 or more for five pounds. This week butter is 2/$4 and flour is $1.99 a bag. In addition to the other bogo deals, this should be a fruitful shopping trip. The only thing we cannot buy there is meat, because it is so expensive there, so  stop at the Piggly Wiggly or Harveys will be in order.

* I have a little part time (from home) job that I started at the beginning of the month. One of the things I do is read various diocesan newspapers for activities to post to various social networking sites. It is really a lot of fun and I get paid to surf the ‘net. However last night, I noticed something disturbing in one paper I was reading. The amount of Christmas happening during Advent. “Christmas Comes to X Parish” is the title of one of the Christmas concerts happening in early December. What?! We have 12 wonderful days of Christmas where (at least in my experience) parishes seldom do anything, but hey let’s cram it all in during Advent.

* Yesterday I logged in to bank where our mortgage is held to see where to send our tax bill to when I saw that we were past due. Huh? I will say that when I sent our payment (electronically) I only sent $100 (for some reason, not sure why, no our mortgage isn’t $1000) but realized by error two days later and sent the rest (electrically). The second payment posted on the 3rd and our payments are due the 1st. However, there isn’t a late fee until the 16th of the month for late payments. So I called to ask what in the world was going on. Turns out that if you send a payment for less than the amount due, they hold it without applying it because they have no idea what to do with it. So when I sent the difference to make the payment the full amount, nothing happened. The woman on the phone said she would have to email someone and get it taken care of. What? You can’t just fix that? So, here it is, the next day, almost 24 hours later and nothing has been done yet.

I asked her about the late fee and she said, because I had never been late on a payment before, they will waive it. I wanted to say “Well, since I wasn’t late this time, it shouldn’t be there at all.” but knowing what the big bad banks can do to my mortgage and my credit, I nicely said “Thank you.” Anyone want to guess on how long it will take to get things fixed up?

* MyChia just arrived downstairs, so I must sign off! Have a great day.  Oh, before I forget, I am doing a Christmas card give away pretty soon, stay tuned for details!

A New Translation Resourse

The always informative, yet amazingly down to Earth, Jake Tawney has a wonderful blog to which he has dedicated much time and effort in to helping us understand the new translation. His blog Roma Locuta Est, not only has wonderful information about the new translation, it is full of other wonderful information about the Church, as well as the occasional post about creations in the kitchen!

New Translation of the Roman Missal

In just a few short weeks, the English speaking Catholics of the world will be praying the prayers of the Mass just a bit differently. What has your parish been doing to prepare for the changes?

Wardrobe Issue

Someone’s small child was sans underwear during Mass this morning…only discovered right as Mass was beginning….I’m not saying who this someone was or giving the name of that small child, but just wanted to state that it happened.

Oh and the someone and his/her spouse thought it was the funniest thing ever.

The Chaplet of Divine Mercy

“Say unceasingly this chaplet that I have taught you. Whoever will recite it will receive great Mercy at the hour of death. Priests will recommend it to sinners as their last hope of salvation. Even if there were a sinner most hardened, if he were to recite this Chaplet only once, he would receive grace from My Infinite Mercy. I desire that the  whole world know My Infinite Mercy. I desire to grant unimaginable graces to those who trust in My Mercy….” (Diary 687)

Praying this chaplet is simple, grab a rosary (don’t let not having one handy stop you, your have 10 fingers) and follow these steps:

1. Begin with the Sign of the Cross, 1 Our Father, 1 Hail Mary and The Apostles Creed.

2. Then on the Our Father Beads say the following:
Eternal Father, I offer You the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Your dearly beloved Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ, in atonement for our sins and those of the whole world.

3. On the 10 Hail Mary Beads say the following:
For the sake of His sorrowful Passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world.

(Repeat step 2 and 3 for all five decades).

4. Conclude with (three times):
Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One, have mercy on us and on the whole world.

I had a scary moment that involved me calling 911 and having the county sheriff out to the house.

We have a land line, (I have mentioned it before) and today the phone rang after three days of being quiet. I answered it and it was a recorded message (poorly worded I might add) about credit card debt and lowering of the rates and if I am interested to press 1. With no option to remove myself from the list, I pressed 1 and this is how the conversation went:

Me: “I am on the do not call list, how are you calling me”
Man: “Ma’am, do you have credit card debt?
Me: “Please put your supervisor on the phone.”
Man: “Ma’am, do y
ou have credit card debt”
Me: “Your supervisor now”
The supervisor gets on the phone and I ask for the company name and address and to be removed from the list. “Josie” complied and that was the end of the call.

Hunky-Dory, right? No.

The phone rang 10 minutes later and it was the same company. This time I just spoke with the person who answered when I pressed 1 and said “You just called, I asked to be removed from the list, please remove me.” and hung up.

Ten minutes later, I was changing Benedict’s diaper when the phone rang again. I answered it and it was the same recorded message. I pressed 1 without listening to the rest of it and when the person answered, I asked for a supervisor. The man at the other end told me he was a supervisor, so I asked for his supervisor. At this point he told me that there was no one above him, so I told him that I requested to be taken off the list two times in the last 20 minutes and that he was in violation of the do not call list. He told me they don’t subscribe to the list and then he said he was going to come over and choke me.

Yes, he said that.

I then went in to protective mama bear mode and said a few things along the lines of “How dare you call me and threaten me.”  I started crying a bit and the man said “Are you pouting now? Are you crying? Are you scared?” then said a few more mocking things about me being upset and crying.

At this point I ran upstairs for my cell, called 911 and was told a deputy would be sent to my house.  I was pretty upset and crying on the phone at this point. I managed to call Joshua while waiting and told him what happened. He said he would call the phone company to get the phone numbers of the last received calls.

The officer arrived pretty much said that there was not much they could do (is there ever?) and his advice to me is to just not answer the phone. Then he left.

Joshua then called and told me the phone company could not access the last calls received without the police calling it in.

I called the FTC and spoke with a very nice woman who took my information then she said that the man was most likely a scammer and that there is no way to catch him (or his “company”).

While the woman at the FTC was nice and officer was not so condescending, I am frustrated that a man called my house, threaten me with bodily harm and there is nothing I can do about it. We are still tossing around calling the FBI to see if they can help, but I am not sure if we will because we will probably get the same response.

Say a prayer for me and my shot nerves though. I realize it was probably just a loser with little to do in life and he probably lives 1000 miles away, but I am still pretty worked up over this and upset.
